Uses of metallurgical silicon
① High-purity single-crystal silicon is an important semiconductor material. By doping single-crystal silicon with trace amounts of Group IIIA elements, a p-type semiconductor can be produced. Similarly, doping with trace amounts of Group VA elements yields n-type and p-type semiconductors that, when combined, can be used to fabricate solar cells, converting radiant energy into electrical energy. This material holds great promise for the development of new energy sources. ② Metal-ceramics—crucial materials for aerospace applications—can be produced by sintering a mixture of ceramics and metals to create metal-ceramic composites. These composites exhibit high-temperature resistance, excellent toughness, and machinability. They inherit the advantages of both metals and ceramics while overcoming their inherent shortcomings. Such materials find application in military weaponry.

About 10 silicon-iron plants in Ningxia have resumed production.
Content Overview: “China Ferroalloy Online”—Reports from the Inner Mongolia region indicate that silicon-iron plants were expected to resume production around the 10th of this month. However, as of today, manufacturers have not received any verbal or written notice. Manufacturers express their helplessness and suggest that the shutdown may continue until January 1st. In the Yinchuan and Wuzhong areas of Ningxia, approximately half of the silicon-iron furnaces that were among the first to shut down have now resumed production...
